The Swedish forest is hosting a wide range of different values such as a resource of timber to industry and wood for heating. The timber is used in furniture, houses, for paper among others. The forest is also home for countless plants and animals in fascinating and complicated interactions. It functions as a place were culture and history are preserved as well as a source of inspiration and relaxation. It is a place were we can collect berries, hunt or simply stroll around.

The Swedish Forest  Agency is the national authority responsible for matters relating to the forest. It strives to ensure that the nation’s forests are managed in such a way as to yield an abundant and sustainable harvest, while at the same time preserving biodiversity. The Agency also strives to increase awareness of the forest’s significance, including its value for outdoor recreation. The Agency has offices throughout the country. Its most important tasks are to give advice on forest-related matters, supervise compliance with the Forest Act, provide services to the forest industry, support nature conservation efforts, and conduct inventories.

The name National Board of Forestry and Regional Forestry Board are at occasions mentioned at this webage. The new common name since the merge at the 1 of January 2006 is the Swedish Forest Agency. Read more about this here>>.
